Final Round of “Smart Campus 2025” Showcases Student-Led Industry 4.0 Solutions for Sustainable Development

16/12/2025

The final round of the “Smart Campus 2025” competition, featuring student-led smart technology solutions for sustainable development, took place on 15–16 December 2025 as part of the International Symposium “Smart City: Innovations and Experiences” (ISSCEI 2025). The event was hosted by the University of Danang - Da Nang International Institute of Technology (DNIIT).

Prof. Dr. Sci. Lê Thành Nhân, Director of DNIIT-UD noted that Smart Campus has been an annual academic and innovation platform for Industry 4.0 technologies since its launch in 2017.

The competition aims to foster and promote smart ideas and solutions—from enhancing comfortable, user-friendly learning environments on university campuses to contributing to the development of smart, innovative, community-oriented cities. It also provides a channel to expand networks in innovation and youth entrepreneurship, connecting universities with businesses in support of sustainable development.

Under the theme “Advanced Technologies for Green Cities,” this year’s competition attracted 12 teams, each presenting original ideas and solutions developed and implemented by students using technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), and robotics. Student teams received technical guidance, training, and academic mentoring from DNIIT experts and faculty members, as well as from scientists and specialists at partner universities in France, particularly in relevant technological and urban innovation fields.

First Prize:

“Dual-Function WEC-Breakwater: Integrating Coastal Protection and Clean Energy Harvesting towards Net Zero” (Students of University of Science and Technology (DUT) - UD, University of Economics (DUE) - UD).

Second Prize:

1- “FLOODGUARD: Intelligent flood monitoring and warning system” (Students of UD-DUT);

2- “RespirAI: An AI-Powered Smart Stethoscope for Remote Respiratory Health Monitoring” (Students of UD-DUT);

Third Prize:

1- “An Integrated AI and IoT-Based Closed-Loop Smart Waste Management System” (Students of UD-DUT, UD-DUE and University of Côte D’Azur, France).

This project also received a Special Prize: a grant from the University of Côte d'Azur, France, to participate in 3 weeks Summer School program as part of the "Digital Transformation Week".

2- “UNIFIED MULTI-DOMAIN AERIAL THREAT DETECTION: Domain-Adapted DEF-YOLO with Synthetic Augmentation for Integrated Security, Traffic Classification with Multi-Platform Hardware Support” (Students of UD-DUT and FPT University);

3- “Application of Near-Infrared Spectroscopy and AI for Sugar Content Analysis in Mangoes” (Students of UD-DUT).

Organizers stated that the success of “Smart Campus 2025” demonstrates once again the strong creative potential and practical technological capabilities of university students. The competition also underscores DNIIT’s pioneering role in promoting and scaling smart technology solutions that deliver positive, lasting impact for the wider community.
