International Cooperation Department – Ministry of Education and Training works with the University of Danang on international student exchange

On 15th August, 2024, the survey delegation of the International Cooperation Department (ICD) – Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) led Mr. Nguyen Tien Dung, Vice Director, worked with the University of Danang (UD) on international student exchange.

For the UD’s part, there was the attendance of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Quang Son – Vice President, leader representatives from functional departments (Science and International Cooperation, Academic Affairs and Educational Quality Assurance, Student Affairs), representative from Board of Rectors and functional offices of the UD’s member universities (University of Economics, University of Science and Education, University of Foreign Language Studies, Vietnam – Korea University of Information and Communication Technology).

Overview of the meeting.

According to Mr. Nguyen Tien Dung, the purpose of this survey and working visit to the UD is to grasp the actual situation, thereby reporting and consulting the MOET’s leaders to continue directing and implementing the Resolution No. 29-NQ/TW (dated 4th November, 2013) on “fundamental and comprehensive innovation of education and training to meet the requirements of industrialization and modernization in the context of the socialist-oriented market economy and international integration” in which attracting international students to study and research in Vietnam is an important task in student exchange activities.

According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Quang Son, in the strategy and process of striving to develop into a national university, the UD has a strategy to strengthen integration and internationalization of higher education. One of its achievements is to expand the scope and effectiveness of the network of prestigious partners around the world, cooperate to build and complete international training programs, especially the English-taught ones.

The UD has been making efforts to accredit training programs in accordance with national and international standards, with 95/135 accredited programs, making the UD among top 3 universities with most internationally accredited training programs (55 programs).

The UD has a large number of staff and lecturers who are trained abroad. This is a premise and solid foundation on the journey of integration, international cooperation, and exchange of staff, lecturers and students.

With the sincere thanks to the survey delegation as well as ICD-MOET and leaders of MOET, the UD’s leader hoped that ICD-UD continue to pay attention, support and connect the UD with more new partners, especially in attracting and exchanging international students to meet the requirements in the context of globalization.

At the meeting, the delegates listened to the reports on the situation and results of the UD as well as its member universities/affiliated units. Accordingly, the UD has developed extensive cooperative relations with many prestigious universities, agencies, organizations, businesses; actively participated in international cooperation networks and projects, thereby signing and implementing many MOUs/MOAs, creating more opportunities to increase international student exchange.

Along with that, the UD is constantly improving the environment, conditions, and policies for international student exchange, focusing on improving the capacity to receive international students.

In addition, the participants also shared experiences from the actual situation, raised difficulties, shortcomings, and limitations to propose timely solutions.

Speaking at the meeting, ICD-MOET’s leader emphasized the importance of attracting international students to create cultural exchange opportunities for Vietnamese universities and foreign partners.

MOET has a policy to promote international students in which the criteria of receiving international students is an assessment for university accreditation and development. ICD-MOET has an information portal for international students to promote a good image of Vietnam to foreign friends.
