The University of Danang signed a cooperation agreement with Hanoi University of Science and Technology: high-quality human resources training, scientific research and innovation, contributing to the development of the whole country.

 

On April 20, 2023, the MoU signing ceremony between the University of Danang (UD) and Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST) was organized at UD. Attending the event were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Huynh Quyet Thang – President of HUST; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Vu – President of UD; Prof. Dr. Le Anh Tuan - Chairman of Council University of HUST and Dr. Phan Minh Duc - Chairman of Council University of UD.

In the event, there were also Dr. Nguyen Quan - Former Minister of Ministry of Science and Technology; Prof. Dr. Bui Van Ga - Former Deputy Minister of Ministry of Education and Training cum former President of UD; Prof. Dr. Tran Van Nam - Former President of UD; Prof. Dr. Nguyen Trong Giang - Former Rector of HUST; Presidential Board and Rectorate Board and Rectors of member universities; Heads of affiliated units of UD and HUST.

Speaking at the ceremony, President Nguyen Ngoc Vu expressed his pleasure and honor to welcome the HUST’s senior delegation to work at UD.

Highly appreciating HUST for having a long-standing tradition and high reputation with generations of alumni/students who have made many important contributions to the country as well as the career of education and training of the whole country, UD President Nguyen Ngoc Vu expressed his appreciation for the support of HUST in training a lot of managers, and lecturers for UD-DUT and continuing to develop the long lasting cooperation between the two Polytechnics universities in the chain of 7 leading technical universities so far…

“We have had a long-lasting cooperation and companionship during the past nearly 50 years” said President Nguyen Ngoc Vu.

On this occasion, President Nguyen Ngoc Vu also congratulated HUST on having a new brand, not having to change the name like changing a new shirt, but actually this is a turning point, a great opportunity for the development of HUST in the new period when having more multi-disciplinary universities.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Vu shared that the purpose of the meeting is to meet, work and sign a cooperation agreement to promote the strengths of each university, carry out the mission of training high-quality human resources, scientific research and innovation, making positive contributions to the industrialization, modernization and development of the country. UD has a well-trained scientific staff, mostly from advanced countries (the percentage of lecturers with a doctorate degree or higher is 45%, while UD-DUT is nearly 73%). In the p time, UD had been building the solid and important conditions and premise for the sustainable development such as: The UD Urban Project has been deployed; UD is supported by the Government and ministries, branches and localities for implementing ODA Project (from the World Bank), UD together with the two Vietnam National Universities in Hanoi and HCM have deployed the Partnership for Higher Education Reform (PHER) project funded by USAD. In particular, the policy of developing UD into a national university has been included in Resolution No. 26-NQ/TW of the Politburo. However, President Nguyen Ngoc Vu also frankly shared about the challenges that UD needs to overcome in the development process.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Huynh Quyet Thang-President of HUST expressed his feelings of joy, and happiness, especially when the leaders of the two universities together reviewed the close relationship between the two universities in the past. “We have a historical cohesion. That will create strength to cooperate and develop together.” said President Huynh Quyet Thang

He also shared about the potential of HUST, which currently has nearly 1,800 cadres, including about 1,150 lecturers (more than 76% having doctorate degree, 26% having professor/associate professor title).

HUST is in the process of restructuring supported by the Government and the Ministry of Education and Training. It currently has 05 member universities and affiliated units

The development strategy of HUST is to continue promoting the strengths, traditions, focus on optimizing human resources, connecting for scientific research, transfer and innovation in the fields of engineering and technology such as Information Technology, Artificial Intelligence-Big Data; New energy; Health Sciences and New Materials, Economics, Management, Educational Technology...

In the atmosphere of sincerity and mutual understanding, the delegates discussed, expressed their joy and highly agreed with the contents signed by the two universities. This will be the general content, a basis for creating favorable conditions for member universities and affiliated units to proactively concretize and implement this MoU based on their potentials, strengths and needs.

In the presence of the delegates, President Nguyen Ngoc Vu and President Huynh Quyet Thang jointly signed a MoU, in which the cooperation contents will be implemented by the two parties for a period of 5 years, including 04 key points:

(1) Cooperation in enrollment and training, focusing on student mobility between member universities and affiliated units of the two universities;

(2) Cooperation in education quality assurance and accreditation, thereby developing an internal quality assurance system associated with implementing quality culture, renovating university governance and matching educational quality;

(3) Cooperation in science, technology and innovation, focusing on key industries in which the two sides have strengths to meet social needs, especially for urgent issues of the country as well as the central region; focus on interdisciplinary/inter-university direction; harmonizing research, transferring and applying with basic/academic research and international publication; Coordinating and organizing prestigious scientific events and conferences...

(4) Cooperation on internationalization to promote international student mobility; sharing network of scholars/experts; Coordinating to participate in international networks and associations…

The MoU signing ceremony between UD and HUST was really an important mark, opening a new phase to jointly carry out the pioneering mission of innovation and integration; improving the quality of training and scientific research, making active and effective contributions to the career of industrialization-modernization and national development.
