On the morning of November 24, 2024, at the Da Nang cluster final round of the National English Competition for Students (Star Awards-2024) hosted by the Youth Union - Student Association of The University of Danang (UD), Team Luminaries (student Vo Hong Phuc, student Bui Thao Ly, both students of UD - School of Medicine and Pharmacy and student Dinh Quynh Truc of UD - University of Economics) excelled over more than 18,000 contestants, won the First Prize, received the Cup and a prize of 10 million VND.

According to Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Thanh Dat - Secretary of the Youth Union of UD, Star Awards-2024 is an academic, prestigious and traditional playground jointly organized annually by the Youth Union, the Student Association of UD and National and Regional Universities, thereby contributing to discovering and nurturing talented English speakers of universities, spreading and inspiring the idea that English proficiency is the key to international integration, aiming towards becoming global citizens.

With the theme "Healthy lifestyle for a healthy heart", Star Awards-2024 attracted more than 18,000 candidates from many universities in Da Nang city and the Central Highlands region to register to participate.

The representative of the Organizing Committee highlighted the meaning and message of the Contest to encourage a healthy lifestyle from a young age for good health, creating opportunities for students to raise community awareness of  health protection, English speaking practice in study and life, creative thinking development and integration.

Through the Preliminary rounds (online) and Semi-final rounds, the 06 best teams with 18 outstanding faces enthusiastically competed in 03 main competitions: Start, Acceleration and Finish.

The judge brought together teachers who are experts in the fields of language, culture and society, provided candidates with a foundation to confidently demonstrate their English proficiency in the competitions, receiving enthusiastic and unbiased encouragement from a large number of young audiences.

From the playgrounds through the seasons of Star Award, the English learning movement of university students has been promoted and focused. Students of UD’s member universities have continuously affirmed their talents and bravery, achieved outstanding results for many consecutive years, represented the Danang cluster in the competition and achieving high results in the national finals, demonstrated the potential, attraction and spread meaning of the Competition.

In the final result, Team Luminaries (Student Vo Hong Phuc, Student Bui Thao Ly - both students of UD- School of Medicine and Pharmacy, and Student Dinh Quynh Truc – UD - University of Economics) won the First Prize and was honored to receive the Cup and a bonus (10 million VND).

The Spa Team (student Nguyen Tuan Quang Tung, student Nguyen Thuy Tien, student Vo Thi Duyen Quynh - all students of UD - University of Foreign Language Studies) won the Second Prize and a bonus (5 million VND).

02 Teams of The Nexus (student Dinh Thi Anh Mai, student Nguyen Tan Tri, both students of Duy Tan University, student Pham Van Vi - Pham Van Dong University) and Ravenclaw Team (student Nguyen Phuong Ngan – UD - University of Foreign Language Studies ​, student Nguyen Thien Dong Phuong, student Le Viet Bac, both students of Tay Nguyen University) won the Third Prize and a bonus of 3 million VND/ prize.

02 Teams of Pioneer Team (student Nguyen Ngoc Phong - University of Architecture, student Ho Thi Nguyen Giao – UD-University of Economics, and student Huynh Thi Kim Trang - Dong A University), and Glowz Team (student Dang Thi Ngoc Anh - Dong A University, student Tran Vu Ha My, student Hoang Dang Quoc Khanh, all students of UD-University of Economics) won the Consolation Prize and a bonus of 1.5 million VND/ prize.

The success of the Danang Star Awards-2024 Cluster Finals is not only an opportunity to connect, exchange, learn, contribute to improving the quality of teaching and learning, application and development of foreign language skills for students, but also clearly demonstrates the proactive and active role of the Youth Union, the Student Association of UD in hosting the event, pioneering with the youth of National Universities and Regional Universities to implement the major policy of making English the second language in universities.
