The University of Danang takes charge of human resource training for Laos and Cambodia under Danang city’s scholarships scheme

On September 22, the University of Danang (UD) and the Danang Department of Foreign Affairs (DOFA) have signed the cooperation agreement, under which the UD will be responsible for human resource training for Laos and Cambodia in accordance with the Danang People’s Committee’s scholarships scheme.

The signing ceremony drew the presence of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Quang Son – Vice President of the UD, Mr. Huynh Duc Truong – Director of the Danang DOFA, and leader representatives from the UD’s functional departments (International Cooperation, Academic Affairs, Student Affairs) as well as DOFA’s divisions.

Speaking at the ceremony, the UD’s Vice President Le Quang Son affirmed that this is the UD’s honour to contribute to the human resource training for Laos and Cambodia, which shows the prestige and international training quality of the UD.

“This event is an important milestone of the UD in companion with Danang city to cooperate, improve quality, expand training scale, attract international students, thereby contributing to fostering the traditional solidarity and friendship among neighboring countries of Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia”, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Quang Son emphasized.

According to the newly-signed cooperation agreement, the UD will provide undergraduate and postgraduate training programs for eligible Lao and Cambodian applicants who meet the language requirements. In case students do not have enough Vietnamese language skills, they have to attend the Vietnamese language preparatory program and eventually take an exam to obtain standardized certificate before entering official programs.

The representatives of the two sides signed the agreement.

The cooperation aims to support and train high-quality human resources in accordance with the needs of profession and development of Laos and Cambodia, thereby facilitating the UD’s traditions, strengths and experience in foreign students’ education over the past 20 years as well as accompanying Danang city in nurturing the traditional friendship and cooperation among Vietnam – Laos – Cambodia.

It is expected that the number of the Danang People’s Committee-granted scholarships will be 58 full ones (4 PhD, 21 postgraduate and 33 undergraduate slots) and 52 partial ones (26 postgraduate and 26 undergraduate slots).

At present, the UD is training more than 700 international students from Laos, Cambodia, South Korea, China, Thailand and many exchange students. The UD invested and put into efficient use of high-quality international students dormitory at University of Economics – UD.

The UD’s international alumni have made positive contributions to the socio – economic development upon returning homeland. Many of them are holding key positions in organizations, agencies and enterprises in their countries.
