The University of Danang - University of Science and Technology (UD-DUT) has officially launched the Strategic Materials and Advanced Research Team (SMART-DUT) under the Faculty of Chemical Engineering, bringing together scientists and lecturers from related disciplines.

According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dang Minh Nhat, Dean of the Faculty of Chemical Engineering at UD-DUT, the establishment of SMART-DUT marks an important milestone in the strategic development roadmap of the Faculty, UD-DUT, and The University of Danang. The initiative also contributes to fulfilling the mission entrusted by UD in implementing Conclusion No. 45, which aims to position UD’s Petroleum Engineering and Oil & Gas Exploration program among the Top 100 in the QS World University Rankings.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Cam Nam, Head of SMART-DUT, stated that the group’s strategic direction and vision focus on leveraging the collective strengths of its members while fostering interdisciplinary collaboration in knowledge and technology. The team will pioneer the integration of computational chemistry and artificial intelligence to address key challenges in several core areas, including energy and energy storage materials; catalysis and sustainable fuels; green materials and industrial by-product treatment; and biomedical and antioxidant materials.

During the launching event, scientists and experts expressed strong support for the establishment and development of the group following an interdisciplinary research model, which aligns with current demands and global trends in scientific and technological breakthroughs, innovation, and digital transformation.

The formation of SMART-DUT also opens new opportunities for faculty members, students, and graduate learners across disciplines to collaborate more closely in integrating education with scientific research, while balancing fundamental research with applied research and innovation.

Congratulations to the SMART-DUT research group, with the expectation that it will continue to generate meaningful scientific and practical outcomes. These achievements will further affirm the group’s academic capability and reputation, while contributing to strengthening the scholarly standing of the Faculty of Chemical Engineering in particular and UD-DUT in general in the years ahead.
