On the morning of July 24, 2026, at the Da Nang City Administrative Center, the University of Danang (UD) and the Singapore Semiconductor Industry Association (SSIA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to promote human resource development, research, innovation, and stronger university-industry collaboration in the semiconductor sector.

During the working session between the Da Nang People's Committee and the SSIA delegation, Dr. Phan Minh Duc, Vice President of UD, highlighted that, under Conclusion No. 45, UD has been selected as one of four Vietnamese universities to receive strategic investment as a model institution for the country's higher education system.

As a regional university and a major center for education, scientific research, technology transfer, and innovation serving both Central Vietnam and the nation, UD is actively implementing its Development Project to become a National Key University, with the goal of ranking among the Top 150 universities in Asia by 2030 and having at least one discipline ranked among the world's Top 100.

UD's leadership also shared the University's achievements and collaborative models with international organizations, associations, corporations, and enterprises in high-tech industries, including the semiconductor sector. Building on existing partnerships with organizations from the United States, South Korea, and Taiwan (China), UD is now further expanding its international cooperation through this partnership with SSIA.

This collaboration presents an important opportunity for both parties, together with Da Nang City, to foster a robust semiconductor ecosystem, with UD serving as a key institution for high-quality workforce development, scientific research, and innovation.

According to Mr. Ang Wee Seng, Executive Director of SSIA, the Association's ecosystem comprises more than 400 member companies actively engaged across the semiconductor industry's value chain.

He expressed SSIA's expectation that this partnership would mark the beginning of long-term cooperation with UD and Da Nang City in strengthening education, research, and technology transfer in this highly promising industry.

Witnessed by Mr. Ho Quang Buu, Vice Chairman of the Da Nang People's Committee, along with representatives from government agencies and the business community, leaders of UD and SSIA officially signed the MOU, establishing a long-term cooperation framework to leverage each party's strengths and contribute to the sustainable development of the semiconductor industry in Da Nang City and Vietnam.

According to the Report of the Department of Academic Affairs and Educational Quality Assurance of UD, three of UD's member universities: University of Science and Technology (UD-DUT), University of Technology and Education (UD-UTE), and Vietnam-Korea University of Information and Communication Technology (UD-VKU), currently offer 12 undergraduate programs and specializations related to semiconductor technology. Each year, these programs enroll approximately 3,000-4,000 undergraduate students, 100-150 master's students, and 10-15 doctoral candidates.

In addition, UD, in collaboration with domestic and international experts, associations, and industry partners, is implementing professional training programs for faculty members as well as capacity-building courses in integrated circuit (IC) design, semiconductor packaging, and testing for students in related disciplines. These programs have trained approximately 400 participants, with an additional 200 trainees expected to enroll this year.
