University of Economics - UD hosts 10th International Conference on Accounting and Finance (ICOAF-2025)

University of Economics (DUE) - The University of Danang (UD), held the 10th International Conference on Accounting and Finance (ICOAF-2025) on June 20, 2025. The annual event, first launched in 2015, attracted more than 100 participants, including academics, policy makers, experts, and lecturers from Vietnam and abroad.

According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Doan Ngoc Phi Anh - Vice Rector of UD-DUE, ICOAF-2025 is a significant international academic event, underscoring the university’s commitment to social responsibility by connecting the scientific community and promoting the application of knowledge in accounting and finance. The conference aims to address challenges and foster economic development in the context of integration and globalization.

This year’s conference also marks the 50th anniversary of UD-DUE, underscoring its five decades of contributions to education, research, and socio-economic development in Vietnam.

The plenary session featured two keynote speakers:

- Prof. Tom Smith of Macquarie University (Australia) presented “Economic and Business Development in the New Era,” analyzing how financial markets adapt to external challenges such as environmental risks and policy shifts. Drawing on research in asset pricing, market microstructure, and derivatives, Prof. Smith introduced new valuation models that incorporate environmental risks and discussed the importance of sustainable financial instruments and transparent capital allocation for low-emission economies.

- Ren Varma, Southeast Asia representative of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), delivered a talk titled “Evolving Roles of Financial Professionals and Skills Needed – 2030 and Beyond.”

Varma examined global trends shaping the future of the finance profession, including the integration of artificial intelligence, data analytics, the rising importance of ESG reporting, and the critical role of ethics in building public trust. He advocated for greater collaboration among universities, professional bodies, and businesses to equip future finance professionals with technological skills and ethical standards needed in a digital world.

Following the plenary session, The conference featured 52 scientific papers presented in thematic sessions, covering topics such as sustainable finance, digital innovation, corporate governance, and climate risk analysis.

The Best Paper Awards were presented to:

- Shin-Rong Shiah-Hou for the paper “The Impact of CFO's Expertise in Financial/Accounting and Non-Financial/Non-Accounting on Corporate Financial Policy.”

- Tung Lam Dang, Duc Trung Do, Ly Ho, and Yue Lu for “Carbon Risk and Cash Holding Adjustment Speed: Global Evidence.”

ICOAF-2025 reaffirmed its reputation as a leading academic forum in accounting and finance in the region and internationally, serving as a catalyst for research collaboration and contributing to sustainable development.
