Vietnam-Korea University of Information and Communication Technology – The University of Danang proactively pioneered in implementing the national strategy of research, development and application of AI


Recently, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Huynh Cong Phap - Rector of Vietnam-Korea University of Information and Communication Technology (VKU) - The University of Danang (UD), Chairman of the club network for Information Technology (IT) training institutes and universities of the Central-Central Highlands region, has attended the online seminar "Promoting the national strategy on artificial intelligence (AI)".

The program brought together Vietnam's leading experts in the field of IT such as: Prof. Vu Ha Van - Scientific Director of Vingroup Big Data Research Institute (VinBigdata); Prof. Ho Tu Bao - Director of the Data Science Laboratory - Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics; Prof.Dr. Nguyen Thanh Thuy - President of FISU Vietnam Club; Assoc.Prof.Dr. Tran Minh Triet - Vice Rector of University of Science - Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City, etc.

This was a program in a series of events to respond to and implement the Government's National Strategy on Research, Development and Application of AI to 2030 to promote the development of the digital economy, make Vietnam become a “bright spot” on AI of the region and the world.

Speaking at the seminar, VKU’s Rector Huynh Cong Phap affirmed that VKU's mission is to be the first and only public university in the Central-Central Highlands region, which is constantly striving to develop according to the advanced university governance model, reaching international level.

With the attention, support and investment of the two Governments of Vietnam and Korea, VKU is always proactive and pioneering in training high-quality human resources for key industries in the field of IT, digital economy development and digital transformation, in which the field of training, research and AI application, the foundation of the Industrial Revolution 4.0 are of special interest to the University.

From the academic year 2021-2022, VKU enrolls new students for specialized training in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence. At the same time, VKU opens training programs in the fields of application, digital transformation associated with e-commerce and digital economy, meeting human resource needs of Da Nang city (in the "smart" urban construction strategy, e-government, innovation and start-up center), localities and businesses of the Central - Central Highlands region as well as the whole country.

The university also focuses on expanding cooperation with many leading domestic and foreign organizations and businesses to deploy human resource training, research and development, including projects in the field of AI.

“VKU is trying to form strong research groups in the direction of in-depth development of a specific application of AI such as the VKU research group focusing on natural language processing, especially Vietnamese, applying AI in commerce, e-commerce as well as improving interoperability between devices, robots and humans” - Assoc.Prof.Dr. Huynh Cong Phap shared.

At the seminar, experts focused on discussing, sharing experiences and planning for big goals such as: Human resource training in the field of AI, Research, development and application of AI, etc.

The efforts of the AI community, including VKU with an active role, pioneering the trend to move with the Industrial Revolution 4.0, will contribute to the goals of the National Strategy on AI to 2030 of Vietnam Government soon become a reality.
