Co-operative planning for climate change disasters 2024

The University of Danang (UD) has developed and implemented an action plan to respond to climate change and natural disasters, aiming to ensure the safety of people, facilities, and maintain stable training and research activities under all extreme climate conditions.

The plan focuses on three main orientations:

- Assessing and managing climate risks at member institutions, especially in areas prone to floods, storms, and heatwaves;

- Developing response and recovery procedures, including plans for laboratory safety, energy reserves, and early warning systems;

- Collaborating with the academic partners, Da Nang city government and local governments in the region in implementing the local climate change response action plan, enhancing adaptive capacity for staff and students through training, workshops, and community activities.

University of Science and Technology -UD held a working session with an expert delegation from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) on May 14, 2024. The meeting centered on a new Technical Cooperation Project focused on post-flood recovery and building a master plan for disaster prevention in Central Vietnam region, particularly for the Vu Gia-Thu Bon river basin. The discussion emphasized co-operative planning for climate change disasters, with both parties exploring the project's implementation and how the university can contribute its expertise in research and technology to enhance disaster resilience in the region.
